About our Guide

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION from
AMERICAN BATTLEFIELD TRUST:
Robert E.L. “Bobby” Krick 
has lived or worked on Civil War battlefields almost continuously since 1972. He grew up on the Chancellorsville Battlefield near Fredericksburg and graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg with a degree in history. He has worked in various historical capacities at several battlefields, including Little Big Horn Battlefield National Monument in Montana and Manassas National Battlefield Park. Since 1991, he has been a historian at Richmond National Battlefield Park.  Krick is widely published on Civil War topics. His first book, The Fortieth Virginia Infantry, was a unit history, and in 2003, the University of North Carolina Press published Staff Officers in Gray, a Biographical Register of the Army of Northern Virginia’s Staff Officers.

Itinerary

Friday, June 10:

6:30-7:15 p.m. — Pizza/Beer/Wine in the Madison Room (hotel meeting room). Pick up your registration materials, meet and greet.
7:15 p.m. — Special presentation by our guest speaker, Doug Crenshaw, author of
Richmond Shall Not Be Given Up: The Seven Days’ Battles, June 25-July 1, 1862 (Emerging Civil War Series). As part of your registration, you will receive a free copy of Doug’s book, which he’ll be happy to sign for you, if you wish. 

Saturday, June 11:

8:15: board the van in front of hotel.
8:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m. VAN TOUR with Robert Krick
First stop: Dabbs House Museum (Lee's HQ); Meadow Bridges; Mechanicsville battlefield; box lunch (included) at Cold Harbor County Park; Gaines's Mill battlefield (extensive walking here). 
Return to Homewood Suites.
​Dinner on your own.

Sunday, June 12:

8:15: board the van in front of hotel.
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. VAN TOUR with Robert Krick
Final Gaines's Mill battle sites; Savage's Station; White Oak Swamp; box lunch (included), Frayser's Farm/Glendale, and Malvern Hill (extensive walking here). Return to Homewood Suites. End of Tour.

​Included in your registration: a copy of Doug Crenshaw's, Richmond Shall Not Be Given Up: The Seven Days’ Battles, June 25-July 1, 1862 (Emerging Civil War Series), a seat on our tour van, entrance fees to any museums or other pay sites, all tours, professional coordination and assistance by your on-board tour host, and the services of our indispensable, expert guide. Also included: box lunch each tour day, bottled water on the van, and the opening night pizza/beer/wine reception, and orientation presentation.

Headquarters Hotel

Homewood Suites, 5996 Audubon Dr, Sandston, VA 23150. The hotel offers free airport shuttle, as well as a complimentary hot breakfast. The (base) room rate is $129 for a King Suite (king bed, sofa bed, kitchenette). Our room block is set for 2 nights (June 10-11).

Lodging is not included in the tour registration; you are not required to stay at our headquarters hotel (you need only be sure to board the bus each morning before our 8:15 a.m. departure time). Itinerary is subject to change as circumstances dictate.

COVID PROTOCOLS: beginning with our fall 2021 tours, all registrants (as well as our tour guide and bus driver) will be required to show proof of vaccination. Additionally, in the interests of safety, we'll follow CDC, state, and local COVID guidelines and recommendations for group gatherings that may be in effect at the time of the tour (to include, if required, wearing of face coverings, and social distancing).
